New Features! Metallurgy, Special Weapons, Gems, Oh my!

3/2/2010
The update you've all been waiting for is finally here! Well, actually on March 4th (Thursday) at 3pm (US Central Time), it will finally be here. For now, the Hammer Room, the space Troodonts, the mysterious journal entry… all will be explained.

First, the space Troodonts were nothing more than a ruse to get you off the scent of the real purpose of the Mystery Room. Not that PK won't ever have space Troodonts. They're just not coming now.

The real purpose of the mystery room is a Workshop where you will be able to craft special weapons and armor. Here's how it will work:

Metallurgy
A new Skill set called Metallurgy will be available (note: the level cap will not be raised). Metallurgy will contain 3 levels of skills just like the other sets. Each skill will allow you to craft certain specialty metals.

Special Weapon/Armor Crafting
Weaponsmiths can use these special metals in their Workshop. The Workshop is an upgrade to the Manor (tap the door in the upstairs hallway of your Manor to build the Workshop addition).

If you have the required level of Weaponsmithing for the weapon you wish to make or convert, go into your Workshop. In here you'll be able to create new weapons and armor using the special metals. You can also infuse your old weapon with a special metal. (Note: Be very careful when infusing your existing weapons with a special metal. Once this process is done, it cannot be undone and you cannot change the weapon or armor to a different special metal. Make certain it is the special metal you want). See the Guide section for more info.

Gems
This is another exciting addition. When a player has reached the max possible level (currently 25), you can continue to gain exp, and when you have filled up your exp bar, you will be able to produce one Gem. This will cost the same amount of Food as leveling up and take the same amount of exp as your last level. These gems will be able to be embedded into weapons and armor, making them look cooler and allowing them to be upgraded to Level 26. See the Guide section for more info.

Gems will also be used to make Crowns/Tiaras which can be worn like status symbols, similar to Hats. (Note: When Gems are used to craft a Crown or Tiara, it is permanent. You cannot use the Gems for anything else after that)

Upgrade Costs for Special Weapons/Armor
Weapons/armor infused with special metals will cost 25% more to upgrade for each level. Weapons/armor with embedded gems will also cost 25% more to upgrade. Items that have both Gems and special metals will cost 50% more to upgrade.

There is an additional Gold cost when converting existing weapons/armor. For more about the costs of conversion and other info see Upgrade/Conversion Costs Guide section

Those are some of the major additions to PK, but there's a lot more. Here's some of the other things you may notice:

New creature - Zagharu
There will be a very difficult creature called the Zagharu. This is a giant, rare blue ice bird. It is very rare and only found in areas of high actual elevation. Zagharus will drop Ice Feathers which are required to make Ice Metal. Guide section

In addition to all this, some of the creatures you encounter everyday may start behaving a little differently. We'll let you figure out these changes out on your own.

Whew, that's a lot of stuff! Please read the related Guide sections for a deeper understanding of these new features. Thanks all and enjoy!!!!!!!
